I am sorry I have been MIA lately but I really apologise to all those who follow up on my blog regularly.regularly. Alot has been happening and I have not been cooking alot. But I do have this amazing soup recipe that I made recently for cousins and it came out just the way we like.I have always been quite scared of trying to make this recipe and always go wit the safe 'chicken corn recipe' but turned out this was easier than that.

Soup is a lot like family, each ingredient enhances the others;each batch has its own characteristics, and it needs time to simmer to reach full flavour.- Marge Kennedy

  • Chicken fillet – 2 large skinless(sliced)
  • Chicken stock-5 cups
  • Tomato paste – 2 tablespoon
  • spring onions – 1 stalk (finely sliced)
  • Carrots- 1 (finely chopped)
  • Chinese cabbage-1/2 (finely chopped)
  • Vinegar-3 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce -3 table spoon
  • Salt and pepper- to taste
  • hot sauce-3 tablespoon
  • Corn flour-4 tablespoon
  • eggs- 2 beaten well
  • sesame oil-1 teaspoon

  1. In a frying pan add half of the chicken, cook till tender.
  2. add the vegetables,add salt ,vinegar,soy sauce,hot sauce ( 1 tsp each) and cook for a minute.
  3. In a large pot add the stock and boil it.Once the stock is hot add the tomatoe paste and let it cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Once the stock is pipping hot, that’s the time when we should add the cornflour paste.
  5. Make the cornflour paste by simply adding cold water to the cornflour in a bowl.mix well and  make sure there are no lumps, slowly add it to the stock, keep mixing well.add a bit at a time to make sure its thick enough to your liking.add more if required.
  6. Then add the veggies and the chicken and the uncooked chicken aswell.let this cook in the stock for 5 minutes.
  7. Add the sauces and salt and pepper.keep tasting it till required flavor is achieved.
  8. In the add the egg little by little in the corners of the soup.
Note : do not touch the soup at this point, let the egg cook up and it will come up on top then break it around with a fork or spatula.
  9. Serve with garlic bread or crackers.

I am posting this for all those who are new too cooking and don't know why we should use the carcass of the chicken is full of amazing flavours that give a unique strong base to the broth.its rich and full of flavour. The carcass make the best soup but if you dont have the carcass then you can just use the chicken whole boil it and remove the boiled meat but that it will be very time consuming. You can get the carcass easily at any poultery shop.

This is how fine the chop should be.Sorry I forgot to take pictures but yes this is how it should be. The veggies can vary to your taste, like I always say cooking isn’t rocket science you can alter things according to your taste and allergies.

  1. In a large pressure cooker add the 15 cups of water and add the chicken fillets and the carcass whole to it. Add one teaspoon of salt. Close the lid of the cooker tight and give it pressure for 10 minutes.
  2. In another pan,add the garlic in 1/2 tsp of olive oil and then add veggies to it. Cook the veggies, mushroom, corn till tender and then add salt, pepper, half of each sauce, chinese salt and white pepper.
  3. Once your both is prepared, strain the broth in the pan with veggies. In a separate bowl keep the breast filet let it cool and shred finely and add it directly to the broth, cook it on low flame untill piping hot.
  4. Meanwhile, make the cornflour mix with cold water.
  5. Slowly add the egg in batches around the soup and let it cook( note: do not mix till it come to the top).
  6. Once the eggs come to the top add the cornflour mix and stir constantly and it will thicken it up.
(note:In case you’re trying to lose weight leave the corn flour mix and shrink your calorie intake)
  7. Now is the time when you taste it and add the remaining sauces all at once.
(note: if your making it for a patient, minus al the sauces and add the seasonings only, believe me it still tastes pretty good).

and don’t forget to serve with crouton, garlic bread or prawn crackers!

Hope you enjoyed the recipe

Disclaimer:Unpaid review, based on my personal experience.

Jan’s Deli has been around for quite sometime and in this short period they have managed to create an amazing clientele. It grew from a small bakery to a very nice comfy cafe.

This small cafe can accommodate over 60 people. In the beginning I personally didn’t like going to jan’s but in the past one year it has become  my favourite eatery in the city.Regardless of how small it is,they actually provide good quality food. Many of my friends disagree but from their steaks to dessert,I personally enjoy every meal here.

The interior of the cafe is very modern and quite interesting. So, ground floor is the bakery and coffee shop and the second floor is a family dining area. The Menu is very neatly designed and precise. They have divided the menu into categories i.e Starters,Chicken,Beef,Fish,Pasta,Burgers,Sandwiches and Drinks. They don’t have a really huge menu where there is too many dishes and the food is not upto the mark. They provide what they cook best.Even though,I am not a big fan of their staff, one thing that puts me off every time is the behaviour of their staff. They are not cooperative at all and talk rudely which has been ignored several times. The management should take note of it,as this may affect their potential customers.

They provide a variety of cakes pastries and other snacks.

But my List of favourites are ;

  • Beef soukrout  steak
  • Double Decker steak
  • New york strip steak
  • Death by Chocolate cake
  • hazelnut cappuccino
  • Baked fish

Recently my friends and I went to Jan’s deli for a late lunch and really enjoyed. They food was worth the money…It was delicious,on time and very well presented.

Sorry, for such a picture. top left : Spicy salad top right: beef Soukrout steak centre : Baked fish bottom left: Double decker soup bottom right : lasagna

Apart from the dishes shown in the picture above, we ordered chicken corn soup and enjoyed coffee with a tempting slice of caramel mousse cake.

I belong to Peshawar (Pakistan) and where I live the size of your meal matters, the bigger the portion the more customers you will get!! Jan’s deli has taken this quite and they provide good portion size at very affordable prices.Believe it or not a bunch of good friends can eat as much as they can in just 5k or $50.

And if you’re a coffee fan like me you can not miss their cappuccino. It’s divine!!!

Jan’s deli offers home delivery so you can enjoy all these yummy foods at home on a lazy sunday or just to kill those cravings. If you’re living in Peshawar or you plan to visit, do try it.

Just writing this review makes me hungry.

Enjoy the review while I order in some good food

Street 1 Cafe Islamabad

Street 1 cafe had always been my first preference when we would choose to dine out but last month completely changed my opinion.Street 1 is situated in the middle of one of the prominent markets, kohsar market F6/3 Islamabad. It is one of the famous places in the city and many celebrities like Imran Khan(politician),Hamza Ali Abbasi(actor),Shoaib Akhtar(Cricketer) etc frequently visit street one with family and friends. Its quiet a place and you will hear people rave about it every time food topic comes up.

This time around Eid my friend and I decided to grab a cup of coffee but our hunger cramps changed our plans. We decided to have food first followed by coffee and dessert. My friend ordered a Italian chicken and I ordered cashew-nut chicken The cafe always serves a small basket of delicious warm bread before the main course which I enjoy the most,i noticed i keep going back there to munch on those *giggles*.

I was extremely disappointed with the food this time.I eat at street 1 often and this was not the kind of food  they served before.I didn’t enjoy my meal at all and neither did it look very appetising. It tasted of old tomatoes!!!

I would rate this dish a 5/10

The presentation is very important and if it doesn’t look appetizing then I assume it won’t be delicious. The presentation of this dish was unpleasant and the serving size was completely absurd. Both the dishes had too many tomatoes and the centre of the chicken was dry. They sauce needed more tangy-ness and more olives! For the price we paid this is not a dish i would recommend to try unless the cafe works on their standards.

i would rate this dish a 4/10

The cashew nut chicken was full of cashews and hardly few chunks of chicken were added, the carrots were cut in different sizes and very very chewy. The rice was bland,no seasoning whatsoever!!!

This was my first bad experience with the cafe food.I really hope they work on the quality of food because the ambience, the comfort, and the crowd is very good. The cafe has an extremely cooperative staff and surprisingly this place is always packed and you will always have to book your table a day before.Without a doubt, the coffee was perfect! I am coffee addict and I have tried all sorts of coffee everywhere but the cappuccino is the best and my second favourite is their mocca coffee.

The cafe is famous for their variety of coffee, dessert and their breakfast.

Street 1 has also introduced a new cafe in the Diplomatic Enclave called ‘The traveler’,I am really excited to go there as their menu is designed by American Michelin star Chef.I bet the food is going to be extraordinary since its designed according to the taste of the foreigners in the area.

Overall I would rate the place 7/10.They need to change their chef and work on their quality before the restaurant faces major loss. They need to work on the pricing strategy as it is a bit overpriced compared to other good restaurants in the city.
